Golden Hour

There really is something about shooting during the “golden hour” that makes you shine. I love how it brings out the natural highlights in my hair that the naked eye wouldn’t notice otherwise.

I don’t know about you, but I’m obsessed with Olivia Pope in NBC’s Scandal. This jacket reminds me exactly of her character and I know every girl dreams to be just as ahh-mazing as she is! I was so surprised by the quality of this jacket, it’s become a new favorite! To make the white really pop and to show off the drapey collar, I wore all black underneath to really contrast the jacket.

2015- Camel Coat & Celine.

Happy 2015 everyone!

This outfit is very fitting for my first post of 2015 because it incorporates some new and some old pieces in my closet, which translate directly to how I am transitioning from 2014 to 2015. I’m bringing with me all the memories, great lessons, and life trials I learned from 2014, and applying them to my new ventures into 2015.

The old: everything except the camel coat.
The new: the camel coat.

I have been wearing my white knit sweater almost twice a week since I first got it in fall (it’s a closet staple), and I cut and distressed these black skinny jeans which I thrifted years ago. I’m not wearing many different or interesting pieces, and everything is very basic, and neutral. The camel coat just gives this look an uplift and pulls the entire look together to make it look chic and effortless. One thing I learned during 2014 was to definitely invest in your staple pieces, rather than buying all the items that are taking on current trends. My staple pieces are a good coat, a great bag, black skinny jeans, and sweaters. I can’t believe I haven’t invested in sweaters until last year!

2014 was definitely a year of ups and downs, and was probably the most enlightening year yet. I turned 24, I traveled to new places and had 4-5 big trips which was the most I have ever had in a year, I made great new friends, I became extremely close to others, I experienced losses, had many ups and downs, but most importantly I discovered more about myself and who I want to be.

Every year I make tangible resolutions like go to the gym 5 times a week, blog more, save more, spend less, etc. But I think for 2015 I want to live by a simple mantra I created that will transcend and apply to every day of my life: Be happy, be humble, be thankful.

This may seem so easy and habitual to some, but for a selfish person like me, it takes an extra step or two to remind myself daily to be happy for who I am, be humble to those around me, and be thankful for everything I have. I noticed these three things the most when I was traveling last year, which was such a blessing! So another side note resolution for 2015 is to: travel more. I feel like you learn more about yourself when you are not in your comfort zone and in new places that really challenge you to realize what you have to be thankful for.

I hope you all had a wonderful experience ringing in the New Year’s and cheers to 2015!

NYC Staples

This outfit has quickly become a staple outfit for when I plan a trip up to NYC. I’ve become a much lighter packer ever since I incorporated a pair of sneakers + black jeans that I wear 2/3 of the weekend. I get on the bus with my joggers + sneakers, usually my Roshe Run but this time I wanted an all black shoe. I wear the same jacket for the daytime to night and I love this one in particular because it’s edgy but soft enough to wear during the day time because of the two-tone look. I pack a blouse or two for the all day Saturday eating activities, a pair of heels, a going-out outfit, and call it a day. It’s my skincare and makeup that take up half of my backpack…

Flare all around

#TBT to this outfit and my long hair. It should feel like fall since it’s officially October but the warm weather has been fickle these past few weeks.

Ever since I got this Pashli crossbody during the Nordstrom Half Anniversary Sale, I have not stopped wearing it. It’s my go-to crossbody because it’s larger than most and you all know I love structured handbag designs. I was a bit nervous about the blush tone because I was worried that it wouldn’t match with a lot of my outfits but it gives the perfect feminine flair to any outfit.

Casual Fridays

Hi everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve posted on the blog but I’m BACK. I just wanted to share with you guys an outfit that has a couple of key items I’ve been wearing on repeat this summer and some to carry me into fall. These pictures were taken a few weeks ago…when I still had my long lion’s hair!

Birks, birks, birks…can’t get enough of them. I’ve also been realizing the importance white/black pieces more than ever now. My closet is pretty colorful but the past few months I’ve collected a couple of white pieces like this sheer blouse that I can just throw on top of any outfit and walk out the door.

Been loving these denim acid- wash joggers. Comfortable and stylish at the same time. IMG_2043

Chambray + Vans

Happy Friday Everyone!

The majority of my shoes are from DSW because 1. they have everything and 2. who doesn’t like discounted prices? I had a couple coupons that needed to be used and as I was walking around my local DSW I had no idea what kind of shoes to get. I felt like I had all the essential shoe staples that I needed in my closet and almost felt a little bit of anxiety with the idea that I HAD to buy a pair of shoes (such a huge problem, right?). I normally don’t buy too many casual pieces but working the casual yet chic look is something that I’ve made an effort to accomplish. I love the look but my usual wardrobe doesn’t necessarily fit the bill. I saw these Vans and fell in love immediately with the navy blue pinstripe design.

P.S. I’ve been kind of obsessed with wearing this statement necklace and pairing it with the matching yellow clutch. Perfect for spring and summer.

Wow. It’s been a while since I posted an outfit. My apologies- my month of April was crazy busy with training + completing my first half marathon. I participated in the DC Nike Women’s half marathon with a few of my girlfriends and cannot wait to do it again next year. It was by far one of the best races I’ve ran/spectated in from the start of the expo to the finisher’s tent at the end. Oh- and you get a Tiffany’s necklace at the end. Picture here.

It finally feels like spring weather and I can’t complain. I’ve  been itching to show some bare legs but now I feel like I need a tan…

Hi everyone!

As you can tell from these pictures, these were taken last week when we had that crazy, random, snow storm, and then suddenly had 70 degrees weather on the weekend. I hope that by posting these pictures up I won’t be jinxing this crazy weather…because I’m so ready for spring.

This jacket is one of my favorite Forever 21 purchases- on sale for $20. You can’t tell it’s from Forever21! It’s actually very sturdy and not made of the cheaper polyester material so it has been keeping me surprisingly warm this winter.

Pink Coat: Chic

Happy Friday, Everyone!

My previous post highlighted this pastel pink jacket in a more street style way. Today I changed two items and it instantly made the look more chic, more me. I changed the burn out top for a white peplum top and my Chucks for a pair of stiletto heels. Style tip: I love recycling my outfits by changing just a few items because then I don’t have to put together another outfit!

Pink Coat: Casual

The blogging curse strikes again. Everytime I blog about an item I want…somehow it magically ends up in my hands (mentioned here about Zara heels that were out of my size, and here about Nike Roshe Runs that were so hard to find). I blogged about a Wishlist Wednesday a few weeks back stating that I wanted a powder blue or pastel pink coat. I wrote this post with having no intentions to actually go out and buy a coat because I was hoping that spring would come sooner. I walked into the mall during my lunch break at work and casually decided to check out New York & Company for new work clothes (my favorite store for work clothes btw). Low and behold, this pink jacket from the Eva Mendez collection was on SALE from $160 to $45…I had to get it.

I wanted to style this jacket + bag in a different way from how I normally dress. I usually gravitate towards a more girly-er, chic, outfit but I wanted to give my Chucks some love and incorporate a more street style look. I love how the pink jacket is feminine, but because of the oversize it can still look great with a pair of Chucks. Personally it’s been hard for me to incorporate sporty fashion into my regular outfits. I either do all chic or all sporty, never mix the two. That has been a fashion trend that I love seeing on other bloggers and wanted to make an effort into incorporating into my future outfits. Stay tuned to see part 2 (and personally my favorite) look of how I styled this pink jacket!
