Shades & Sneaks

wafwaeaeFor the past couple of weeks I’ve been having a huge craving for some new shades + sneaks. Maybe it’s the warmer weather that’s inspiring me to update my spring staples, or the fact that I tried on some Aviators last night and bought them on Amazon today… Whatever the reason is, here are a few of my favorites that I’ve been lusting over lately.

Karen Walker  |  Ray Ban  |  Marissa Collections (similar Miu Miu)

TBS x Steve Madden  |  adidas x Topshop  |  New Balance

I’ve been looking for a pair of aviators for quite some time so I’m glad that the Ray Bans come in a large size (62 mm) for my chubby cheeks. I was contemplating whether or not to splurge the extra 30$ for the polarized lenses and I’m glad I did, because most of the time when I’m driving I’m still squinting through my sunglasses to avoid the brightness of the sun (this is probably a dramatization, but you get the picture).

Growing up, everyone had a pair of Adidas Superstars. They were all the rave. These were one of my favorite pairs of sneakers and I’m so glad that they are making a comeback. Don’t believe me? Check out these stylish bloggers wearing them: The Haute Pursuit and Sincerely Jules

And New Balance sneaks…you’re next on my list.

xx

Friday Faves: Foundation

Hello Everyone!

Today I wanted to share a little about more about my beauty routine. I am no where near MUA worthy but I do like to try new beauty products (a lot actually :P) and love finding products that I love. I’ve recently gotten a lot of compliments on my complexion when I wear certain foundations and thought I would share some of my HG foundations with you. I’ve already done my mascara and lip editions and eyeshadow/liner is soon to come. At the end of this series I’ll do a post with my favorite beauty products overall!

wefawef

I’ve tried a lot of drugstore foundations and do love them for the cost and finish (some are Revlon Colorstay, Revlon Photoready, Loreal Truematch, etc). But now that I’m getting older and trying to take better care of my skin, I’ve shyed away from drugstore foundations and invested in more expensive foundations because it is what I apply daily to my bare skin. For reference, my skin is combo-oily and I get pretty oily in my t-zone during the day.

I’ve probably gotten the most compliments on my skin when I wear Make Up For Ever’s HD Foundation. My shade is 123 Desert and I love that it has a olive/yellow undertone. Most drugstore foundations I’ve tried have more of a peachy/pink undertone which shows a great difference between the color of my face and my neck. This foundation is light-medium coverage and definitley buildable. It’s the most liquid-y of the three but I think thats what makes it so invisible and sinks into your skin. I love wearing this when I have to go out at night because it makes my skin look flawless in flash photography.

If I want a strong, matte foundation that will last all day, I reach for my Chanel Mat Lumiere in 030 Cendre. This also has a yellow undertone but not as olive as MUFE HD. This foundation is a bit thicker and medium coverage compared to MUFE HD but with Smashbox primer, this foundation, and MUFE HD powder, my makeup will last ALL DAY…LITERALLY. I am a pretty oily gal so when I find products that decrease my oily-ness, it is a HG product for sure.

For my everyday work foundation, I love wearing Laura Mercier’s Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer. The color I wear is Natural but I’m not sure if they colormatched me correctly when I bought this at Nordstrom. It’s been working for me so far though so no complaints! I was referred to this by a friend who also loved BB creams but was finding that it made her too oily throughout the day. I switched to this from my BB creams and although it does keep me less oily, I feel like I still need to powder or blot once in the afternoon. I do love the lightness of this product for daily wear.

I’m currently on the search for a new pressed powder! If you have any recommendations please let me know! Thanks for reading!

Mascara 101

Maybelline One by One | Maybelline The Falsies | Benefit They’re Real

Hello Everyone!

I wanted to share a a few beauty secrets with you all for the holiday season. One question I get a lot from my friends is what mascara I’m using for long, curly, lashes (particularly for Asian lashes). Fortunately, I was blessed with medium-lenth lashes, by no means super long, but I work with what I have! Unfortunately, a lot of people I know have short, sparse lashes that do not keep a curl.

The History:

I have probably tried a total of 10-15 mascaras so far in my life and in comparison to how many have been out in the market, that is such a small percentage. I was lucky enough to find my holy grail mascaras with little test and try and the three above are my forever favorites.  The first mascara that really worked for my Asian lashes was Shiseido’s Lasting Lift Mascara that was discontinued. This mascara was seriously MADE for Asian lashes because it held up my curl and made it look like I  had false eyelashes on. After it was discontinued, I googled “dupes” for this mascara and found that a lot of people used Apple Mascara. Now I did try this out for a while and even tried about 5 out of the 12 they offer. Each of them worked great and still held up my curl but after a few years in college I felt that using a 2-3$ mascara that was shipped only from Mexico wasn’t as safe.

A few years ago, I came across Maybelline One by One and the Falsies because Xteener raved so much about them on her youtube videos (review here). I bought both of them from Ulta with the buy 1 get 1 50% off and $3.50 off a $10 purchase so they were really quite affordable (both deals are ongoing right now as well!). I instantly fell in love with this duo and have been layering on these mascaras for a few years now.

The Verdict:

What’s important to me is that my lashes are separated, yet lengthened and volumized (a little too much to ask for everything? Haha). One by One goes on first to separate and lengthen my lashes. Then the Falsies goes on to add volume and intensity. You can stop there but after getting Benefit’s They’re Real in my Sephora Birthday gift, I started added a third layer of this mascara because it really adds the intensity.

Picture below shows only 1 coat of One by One and two coats of the Falsies. asdfasfdasfsa

Mascara 101:

  • Waterproof Mascaras will hold a curl better than non-waterproof
  • Don’t be afraid to layer two different mascaras or more!
  • Find a brush type that works for your lashes
  • Everybody has their own preference, so it’s not always one size fits all!

I hope you all enjoyed this beauty post and let me know if you want to know some more of my beauty tips! I am by no means a beauty guru all opinions are from my own experience 🙂 Let me know if you have any holy grail mascaras that are worth trying!

The Perfect Pair: Run in style

wefw

I swear I’m not sponsored by Nike or anything (I wish), but my ultimate favorite running shoes are all from Nike and I wanted to express my opinions on three of the best running shoes they are currently carrying. Let’s start with a little long background story of how I got into running and why I’m obsessed with Nikes.

I’ve always been running at the gym since highschool throughout college but mostly for diet/health purposes, and never to train for anything. I ran 2-3 miles on the treadmill and never ran outside because I would always get shin splints. Because of this, I never thought of doing any races because they are all held outside, duh. About a year ago, WP decided that one day he wanted to sign up for a half marathon/triathalon/be super ambitious and not do much training. A couple months later, I followed suit and bought my first pair of REAL running shoes, the Nike Pegasus 29+. I say “real” because these were the first pair of shoes I actually went to a store and got fitted for. Being a fashionista slash a girl, of course we want our sneakers to look cute while we work out at the gym. Previous to the Pegasus 29, I had a pair of Nike Frees, Zoom Sisters, In Seasons, and another Nike Pair I cannot remember (and yes, I was rotating these all at the same time). I was mostly using my Frees, Zoom Sisters, and “other pair” for running at the gym, and the In Seasons for walking around because it doesn’t have much support (because they literally have a jelly cushion in them that is so amazing). When I tried the Pegasus 29 on, it literally felt like my feet were being engrossed by clouds and I realized what I was missing out on.

Why did it take me so long to get fitted? Because 1, like I said earlier, as a shopaholic/consumerist, I want my shoes too look cool and represent me, and I was not gonna have it with the mesh-style ugly running shoes (no offense to those brands because the shoes are actually great). And 2, because I didn’t realize the important of running shoes. After I came to this realization, I then realized that I was running wrong–>running wrong leads to shin splints –>shin splints leads me to think I can’t run outside–>thinking I can’t run outside deters me from doing races. (Side note: you’re not supposed to run heel to toe, you’re supposed to run mid foot–watch a video here)

WP continued to run and partake in a half marathon, and I continued to run and partake in 5k’s. I wanted to continue my running  journey in hopes of running a full marathon–yes a whole 26.2 miles–sometime in my lifetime so I signed up for the Baltimore Marathon Team Relay (7 miles) this past weekend, and the Run for the Parks 10K (6 miles) in about 3 weeks. I had done a decent amount of training but the most I ran was 6 miles and I wasn’t pushing myself to better my mile time. I finished my leg 4 by running 7.5-7.75 miles with a roughly 10 minute mile but was hoping to reach my goal of 9:30. Granted, I had to wait in line to take a pee break because I had to pee so bad during my first 2 miles…I feel like if I didn’t have to do this, I would have run faster in those first two miles and could have avoided the 5-10 minute pee break.

Since I’ve conquered the 5k and 10k, the next step for me is the half marathon which I feel like I can fully do. After 7 miles I was feeling great and felt like I could run more. Something that WP always told me when I was doubting my running stamina was that “it’s all mental” and it truly is. One sign I saw when I was running was, “when you can’t run with your feet, run with your heart.”

A race that I’ve been wanting to run since last year was the Nike Women’s Half. Inspired by the #werunsf to #werundc, I was introduced to this race by a dear friend/mentor of mine a couple years ago who is originally from California. We both plan to enter into the raffle this year and run it together, and end up with a Tiffany’s necklace at the finish line 😉 For more information, go to the facebook page here and good luck to all those in SF running it next week!

Now that I’ve finished my long story, let’s get to the real stuff that you initially started reading this post for. I truly believe that every runner should go get fitted, and bite the bullet of 100$ shoes and sacrifice the look factor. If the right shoe for you ends up looking very cool, good for you! But if the right shoe ends up being something you hate…well then I’ve got nothing for ya :/

Nike Pegasus 30: This is the 30th model of this running shoe so you know that with trial and error it’s gotta be good after 30 years. It’s been on my radar ever since it came out (in the coral/grey colorblocked color) because it’s the next generation of my current running shoe that I love. The cushion is unbelievable and while it may be bulky for first-time users, it really has helped change my running form. For those looking for an extreme cushion and neutral ride, this is the PERFECT shoe for you.

Nike Lunarglide 5: This is a great stability shoe. If you want to read more about stability vs. neutral, click here. As a stability shoe, it’s much harder than the Pegasus because they don’t have much support. Although it is more stability, it is still pretty neutral so it’s a great fit for those looking for less cushion and still lightweight. I personally love the look of this shoe and we’ll consult with the experts later to see if this might be the next shoe for me.

Nike Flykit Lunar1: A little mix of both, on the Nike Website this is listed as a neutral shoe. With less cushion than the Pegasus, when I tried these it felt like a hybrid of the Pegasus and the Lunarglide, which actually may be perfect for me later on. With a little bit more stiffness in the cushion, these are still extremely lightweight. The thing that attracted me the MOST to this shoe is the sleek design and the fit. The upper is much more fitted to the top of my foot than the Pegasus, probably because it’s less bulky and more fitting.

I hope you all enjoyed reading my running story and my opinion about these great shoes. Like always, these opinions are my own and they are obviously structured around my own judgement and experiences. If you can run a marathon in Nike Frees, Vibrams, or even barefoot (which I saw someone do last weekend), that is your own choice to make. I would love to know if you have a running story and what shoes you are currently loving!

Favorite Fall Lip Colors

erwerw

I shouldn’t necessarily title this post my favorite “fall” lip colors because truth be told I wear these colors year round, but I find myself grabbing these shades more frequently during the fall than in the spring/summer. These six lip products are my favorite products based on the color and the consistency/feel of the product. Keep reading for a more in depth review of each!

1. Chanel Rouge Allure in 99 Pirate– $34- If you read my last post you’d know that I picked this up less than a week ago, but I can already tell it will be my go to classic red lip color all year round. It has slight blue undertones but I feel like it balances with my skin tone very nicely. The consistency of the Rouge Allure has to be my favorite amongst the Chanel lip products because they just glide on soooooo well. The wear time is 3-4 hours and I have to reapply if it’s going to be a long night. I would definitely love to pick up a few more colors in this line

2. Revlon Lip Butter in Sweet Tart- $7- I’ve had this lipstick for almost 2 years now (is that gross?) and I am SOOO close to finishing it. I picked up Sweet Tart, Cherry Tart, and Cotton Candy when they first came out and recently picked up Peach Parfait (swatches and a better review here). I love the consistency of these because they are very moisturizing like a lip balm but personally love Sweet Tart on my lips because although it looks very bright and fuschia in the tube, it comes out as a flirty pink on my pigmented lips. I also appreciate the fact that this color doesn’t have sparkle chunks in it like Peach Parfait and Cotton Candy do.

3. Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Canotier-$34- I wasn’t a big fan of the Coco Shine line because they seemed too sheer to see the color on my lips. I had Aventure and although it was a gorgeous nude baby pink color, I felt that I could find a similar shade from the drugstore. In the tube Canotier looks like its just a tube of wax with sparkles thrown in, but on my lips the barely there nude look is amazing. I still haven’t found my perfect drugstore nude lip color so if you guys have recommendations I would love to know!

4. Covergirl Lip Perfection in Fairytale– $7- One of my go-to lip colors for a night out. This color is so versatile and looks great on me with with a meidum skin tone to all of my girlfriends who range from pale to even paler. I feel like this product hasn’t gotten as much love as it should have deserved when it was first released because the formula is just amazing. It’s definitely waxier but still moisturizing and stays on your lips the ENTIRE night and requires a make up wipe to take it off. It was one of my favorite summer colors but I definitely see myself carrying this over to fall. Check out makeupandbeauty.com’s photos for a better review.

5. Revlon Super Lustrous in Coralberry– $7- Another summer color I’m bringing over to fall because this coral is more red than orange which I prefer. Revlon has to be one of my favorite drugstore companies for lip products. This line in particular is my favorite because they carry more mature, less-sparkly, creamier colors. I cannot wait for the 6 new throwback shades to come out. I definitely am drawn to Snow Peach and Jungle Peach.

6. Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Lip Stain in Crush- $7- A clear cut fall color, I used to stay away from purpley mauve colors because I thought it was too mature. This lip stain is the perfect medium for a mauve because it isn’t as intense as a lipstick. I personally love this lip stain and also have Honey, Precious, and Sweetheart. The waxy formula keeps your lips moisturized and the color stays on for a couple of hours.

Thanks for reading! I’d love to know some of your fall go to lip products. Leave a comment below!

Fall Purse Picks

Capture

With fall just around the corner I wanted to share with you guys what my fall purse picks would be!

For the everyday/work bag I absolutely love this Michael Kors Medium Selma Studded Satchel. I love how the Saffiano Leather looks and makes the bag look chic yet cool with the studs. Pair it with the clutch and you’re ready to go from the office to a night out with the girls.

For the everyday crossbody, this Philip Lim Mini Pashli is the perfect mini bag. A mix of structure plus so much style, this mini bag packs in a lot of statement.

And for those of us who want to lust, my next big girl purchase will definitley be the Celine Trapeze. If you couldn’t tell by now I love structured, classic pieces with a twist. I would definitley pick a colorblocked Trapeze and this animal print is perfect for fall!

Friday Faves: Zara Heels

Zara has been on POINT (literally) with their strappy heels for the past few years. I think the orange/nude strappy combo is still my favorite and if they ever come back with it I’m hopping on that the first second it gets online! Misisng out on those shoes are still one of my BIGGEST fashion regrets.

Strappy heels can make your casual outfit look instantly look more chic, and they are perfect for day to night wear. Not to mention that these heels are generally a little lower than the sky high platform heels we were so used to wearing.

Comfort + Chic = Awesome.
